The Deer Park Chamber of Commerce named Vopak Terminal Deer Park it's 2008-2009 "Industry of the Year" at its annual "Salute to Industry Luncheon" Thursday, Nov. 13, 2008, at the Jimmy Burke Activity Center.

The mission of the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce is to promote a climate for business which enhances the economic vitality and quality of life in the community of Deer Park. Vopak was honored for their contributions to these efforts.

Previous “Industry of the Year” award recipients include Shell-Deer Park, Intercontinental Terminal Company, Rohm and Hass and the Deer Park Independent School District.

Lawrence Waldron, Vopak Terminals general manager for the Gulf Coast, accepted the “Industry of the Year” award and spoke to the Deer Park Chamber of Commerce and a gathering of supporters.

Vopak Terminal Deer Park recently partnered with the San Jacinto Texas Historic District as part of the economic development plan, Project Stars, to place a mural called ‘Discovery’ on a storage tank at the Vopak facility on Battleground Road.

‘Discovery’ represents events that took place on the morning prior to the epic Battle of San Jacinto at which time the Texians “discovered” they had reached the site (near the present day Vopak facility) critical to an approaching battle with the Mexican Army.

Vopak Terminal Deer Park is located at 2759 Battleground Road. The facility is just one of 80 tank terminals in over 30 countries. Vopak is the world’s largest provider of conditioned storage facilities for bulk liquids.

Royal Vopak is the world’s largest independent tank terminal operator specializing in the storage and handling of liquid and gaseous chemical and oil products. Vopak can trace its company history back almost 400 years to its founding in the Netherlands.
